PUB-AUCTION
EVENT

These elegant pendants are produced by South Fraser Gogo's member Pat Czuczor using dominoes and trade beads.

All the beads Pat uses come from Africa, either made there or recycled from beads traded there in the past century.

Most of her coloured glass beads were originally shipped from Europe to Africa and used as currency. In Ghana and Nigeria, people now collect these old beads, string them on raffia and re-sell them.

There is also an African tradition of making beads from powdered glass. Artisans pound glass into powder, pour it into clay molds and fire the molded beads in a kiln.

The pendants sell for $10 each with net proceeds donated to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Campaign.
